Why teach thinking?

The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs 2025 report finds analytical and creative thinking to be the most highly sought-after skills now and in the near future. Future job seekers will need to be out-of-the-box thinkers, complex problem solvers, and effective communicators. These are skills that can and must be taught to students throughout their school years, beginning in early childhood.

A new vision for education

In a groundbreaking move towards educational reform, the National Education Policy of India 2020(NEP) has recognised this to be a compelling, urgent need by asking schools to “make space for critical thinking, more holistic inquiry, discovery discussion, and analysis-based learning”. The policy is essentially mandating a transition from a predominantly present rote learning culture to a culture of inquiry-based teaching and learning.

We are here to support schools in making this transition

Whether you are taking your first steps towards implementing an inquiry-driven curriculum (IB, CBSE, IGCSE) or are somewhere in the midst of that journey, we have workshops tailored to your needs.

We bring together the best and most current research from around the world, we contextualise and adapt it to the Indian educational ethos – because we know that what works in one environment doesn’t necessarily work the same way somewhere else – and we present it in a culturally responsive way. Our tiered signature inquiry workshops are designed to meet teachers where they are in their journey.

Signature Workshops

Building Thinking Classrooms

Are you ready to make the transition from mechanical rote learning and memorisation practices towards real meaning making and deep understanding?

Dive-in: Learn why inquiry is important; understand the difference between knowledge and understanding; explore the role of inquiry across disciplines.

Transform: The student experience by enhancing engagement and empowering student learning.

Apply: Practical, easy-to-use strategies to ignite thinking within your content area.

This workshop will introduce key underlying principles of inquiry-based teaching and learning and help teachers begin to implement thinking practices in their classrooms. Modelling a hands-on, collaborative classroom environment, participants will engage in inquiry-driven discussions, learn evidence-based thinking strategies, and leave with ready-to-use activities and thinking routines that are applicable to their personal teaching contexts.

Deepening Thinking in the Classroom

Do you want to spark creative thinking in your classroom?

Dive-in: Learn how to cultivate curiosity to lead student learning while also tapping into their interests.

Transform: Students’ skills of inquiry and higher-level thinking.

Apply: A variety of questioning techniques to open students’ minds to diverse perspectives.

This workshop will help teachers go deeper into integrating different types of questions that help build a culture of inquiry. Learn about surface deep and transfer learning and practice over 15 different types of questions that help grow critical thinking. Then practise applying them to the content area that you teach.

Designing for Deep Thinking

Are you designing your curriculum for surface content knowledge or for deeper transferable understanding?

Dive-in: Learn to use an effective process of curriculum design that helps to clarifiy goals, determine evidence of learning, and plan instruction.

Transform: How you deliver your instruction by closely aligning it to student learning goals.

Apply: The Understanding by Design (UbD) framework to your content area.

Using the established framework of Understanding by Design (UbD), this workshop will help teachers explore how to design their curriculum units for students to achieve a deeper understanding of subject matter and transfer that knowledge to other areas. Participants will understand the principles of UbD with concrete examples and apply the three stages of formulating learning goals (different from content-knowledge goals), designing performance assessments, and crafting learning experiences that foster deep understanding.
